This item is wonderful. We have used it to cook bacon on numerous occasions in the microwave with positive results. Highly reccommend.

The bacon rack, though perhaps a bit small, work great. My sister had one of these 20 years ago and it was, next to the microwave, probably her most used kitchen item. It WILL discolor with use, though it seems akin to the seasoning that develops on an iron skillet rather than "dirt"... ie its harmless other than maybe it doesn't look so good. It is "two sided" so you can use either the "ribbed" or the "smooth" side to do things besides bacon. I ordered the set Nordic Ware Microwave 6 Piece Essentials Cook Set and got other things grouped together.. if you don't you should consider a "spatter shield" to prevent messing up the microwave. There are many available.
This is round and fairly small, but fine for me as my family is out of the house, but if you have a family and need larger amounts, you might consider one of the larger ones Nordic Ware Microwave Bacon Tray & Food Defroster or Nordic Ware Microwave Sloped Bacon Tray (Medium). Also there are other types that cook the bacon "on edge" or "draped" which might do larger amounts more conveniently Cameron Cookware Mak'n Bacon Presto 05100 Microwave Bacon Cooker etc. I've not tried the "draped" ones, but my sister owned the rectangular, sloped one and it worked fine too.

OK, so to cook bacon in the microwave, I had been using a dinner plate with paper towels: two underneath and one on top. The bacon came out cooked evenly every time. The only trick is getting the time right.
While I was searching for a microwave cover (to prevent splatters), I came across this thing and thought I'd give it a try.
So I'm here to report that the bacon does not come out cooked evenly: 3 peices on the plate, the one in the middle was only partially cooked while the other two peices and the ends of the peice in the middle were fully cooked. Had to cut that peice and cook it longer. Not fun.
Maybe you are thinking something else changed? Nope. The only difference between using this specially designed plate and using a regular dinner plate is what the bacon is sitting on - the plate. Everything else is the same - same power, same time, same built-in microwave turntable, etc. I even used bacon from the same package.
Theory: My ceramic plate (stoneware?) distributes the heat more evenly than this peice of plastic so the bacon cooks more evenly.

I used to have one of these pans and somehow I cannot find it. I looked all over and could only find a rectangle or square microwave bacon pan which does not work in all sizes of microwaves. I love this shape.

Okay, this will sound cheesy. I've got a bunch of these, and they are great as a safe platform to hold and transport hot plates, paper plates, frozen dinners, hot bowls of pasta, hot pizza slices..just anything that you've microwaved for a quick meal and dont want to burn the table top or your own lap or your doggies who are jumping on you hoping for a tasty bite! These things are pretty much indestructible.
